Welcome!
The
Integrated Food Safety Information Delivery System
(IFSIDS) web site is designed to serve the needs
of food safety regulators by providing factual
information for use with local food establishment
operators. The IFSIDS web site contains food safety
fact sheets covering a few of the more common
topics dealing with the day-to-day operation of
a food establishment, such as proper hand washing
techniques, use of a three-compartment sink, and
hot and cold holding temperatures. The site also
contains ready-to-use signs in a PDF format that
can be printed and appropriately placed in food
establishments.
Recognizing
the growth in ethnic food establishments, the
materials contained on the IFSIDS web site are
available in English and thirteen foreign languages.
The fact sheets and signs can be printed directly
from the web site and provided to food establishment
operators during the initial licensing inspection
or at subsequent visits as deemed necessary. All
materials are based on the Food and Drug Administration's
(FDA) 1999 Model Food Code. Regulators should
check their local food code and/or ordinances
before distributing any of the materials so that
local enforcement remains consistent.
To
ensure consistency with the 1999 Food Code, the
IFSIDS web site uses the following terms throughout
the pages:
- "Food
Employee" means
an individual working with unpackaged
food, food equipment or utensils, or food-contact
services.
|
- "Food
Establishment"
means an operation that stores, prepares,
packages, serves, vends, or otherwise
provides food for human consumption. The
term food establishment includes restaurants,
catering locations, grocery stores, vendors,
and institutions that provide food directly
or indirectly to the consumer. Mobile,
stationary, temporary, or permanent facilities
or locations where food is provided for
consumption on or off the premises regardless
of whether there is a charge are considered
food establishments.

from the IFSIDS web site will provide regulators
with direct access to other food safety-related
web pages, including the FDA; the United States
Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection
Services (USDA/FSIS), and the National Restaurant
Association, among others. In addition, a feedback
page is provided for comments and suggestions on
ways to improve the IFSIDS web site.
The
IFSIDS Project is funded through a grant from
the United States Department of Health and Human
Services, Food and Drug Administration (DHHS/FDA).
The Food and Consumer Safety Bureau of the Iowa
Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) maintains
the IFSIDS web site.
